Octo Omoove and Oberthur Technologies present a revolutionary service for car-sharing
Octo Telematics Company Omoove and Oberthur Technologies will present EasyOpen, a revolutionary system that allowssmartphones to operate as car keys, at the Barcelona Mobile World Congress (Feb. 27 – March 2, 2017).
The Future of Car Sharing
EasyOpen is a new system that is set to revolutionise car-sharing and fleet services by improving the user experience and increasing security. The new system, which will be unveiled at the upcoming Barcelona Mobile World Congress, brings together Oberthur Technologies’ expertise in secure services for smartphones and wearable devices with Omoove’s vast experience in car–sharing platforms and telematics technology and services.
At present, most car-sharing services and fleets continue to rely on communication between on-board telematics components and an on-line central management hub. However, this interaction model often causes delays, as well as potentially exposing the vehicles to illicit use.
EasyOpen allows users to access vehicles through their smartphones thanks to NFC (Near Field Technology). This means that drivers interact directly with the shared vehicle, even remotely. Moreover, EasyOpen also works with wearable devices equipped with eSE (embedded Secure Element) that supports NFC technology.
Telematics Innovation
“As a pioneer and leader of Insurance Telematics, Octo places innovation at the heart of its growth. The agreementbetween Octo and Oberthur Technologies allows us to leverage mutual expertise in automotive solutions and IoTapplications and to cover the needs of the emerging sharing mobility market for fleet managers and car sharingoperators,” explains Giuseppe Zuco, Omoove CEO and Octo Telematics co–founder.
“Digitalizing and securing the keys in end–users’ devices is the first achievement of the agreement, led by Omoove, focused on shared mobility solutions, and OT, a field–proven expert in securing digital services covering a wide range ofsmartphones and wearable devices, as well as the automotive space. This is a key asset to offer a ready–to–use and fully–secured solution to Omoove customers, supported by cutting edge technologies, serving a strong and unique userexperience.”
Simple and Intuitive Technology
EasyOpen ensures strong authentication of smartphones (or other mobile devices) and secures the provisioning and storage of digital keys, providing clients with an extremely simple, intuitive and fast user experience.
After registering with the service through the EasyOpen application provided by Omoove, users will be able to find and book nearby vehicles using their smartphones, immediately receive the digital key and unlock the vehicle simply by placing their smartphone close to the windshield.
An integrated on-board system ensures secure communication between the client’s mobile device and the car, including the remote management of vehicle access rights. In case of device loss or theft, the digital key can be disabled remotely to avoid any danger of misuse.
EasyOpen will be presented at the Barcelona Mobile World Congress (Feb. 27 – March 2, 2017): OT Booth, Hall 6, Stand6H30.
